Wellington MG Celebrates Opening Weekend with a Blend of Heritage and Innovation

Wellington MG has officially opened the doors of its brand-new showroom, marking a significant milestone for both the dealership and the local community. The  opening took place over the weekend and drew in an enthusiastic MG enthusiasts, customers, and curious visitors eager to see what the future of motoring has in store.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was carried out by none other than Denis Golden, Network Development Manager at MG Motor UK. His presence underscored the importance of the new showroom within MG’s national network and highlighted the company’s confidence in Wellington as a thriving hub for the brand.

Guests were treated to a display of not only the latest MG models, but also the brand’s proud history. Among the stars of the day was a pristine 1930 MG M-Type, kindly brought along by long-time MG enthusiast Mike Dalby. Its elegant lines and vintage charm provided a striking contrast to the modern showroom and its cutting-edge cars.

Adding to the spectacle was a beautifully restored 1971 MGB Sebring Evocation, presented by Tim York from the County Classic Museum. Painted in a striking green and cream livery, the car reminded visitors of MG’s racing pedigree and enduring appeal.

One of the highlights of the day came when Trainee Sales Executive Lewis Cullingham was spotted chatting with Mike about the heritage of the M-Type. It was a heart-warming reminder of how MG’s story continues to spark curiosity across generations. Lewis’s fascination mirrored the excitement at the event, where visitors old and new swapped stories about their experiences with the brand.

Of course, the event was not only about looking back. Wellington MG proudly announced that two of MG’s most talked-about models — the IM5 and IM6 — will be available to explore in person this week. With sleek designs, modern features, and MG’s signature balance of performance and value, they’re expected to attract plenty of attention from visitors and enthusiasts alike.

Adding to the excitement, Mike himself took the futuristic MG Cyberster for a test drive. Known for his passion for classics, Mike returned from his drive grinning, impressed by the car’s performance and technology. He admitted it was remarkable to experience just how far MG has come in nearly a century of innovation.

The dealership’s team extended heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and helped make the launch a success. Staff were on hand throughout to answer questions, guide tours of the showroom, and highlight some of the special launch offers now available.

Speaking after the event, Matthew Holcombe, Group Managing Director for Wellington Motor Group said: “We were delighted to welcome so many people through our doors to celebrate this exciting milestone. MG has such a rich history, but it’s also a brand that’s looking firmly to the future. Our new showroom reflects that balance, and we can’t wait to welcome even more visitors in the weeks ahead.”

The opening weekend was more than just a launch — it was a celebration of MG’s enduring spirit, bringing together the past, present, and future under one roof. With new models arriving, unbeatable offers, and a vibrant showroom ready to welcome customers, Wellington MG looks set for an exciting journey ahead.
